Function Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic is a new, purpose built facility conveniently located at Penrose Wharf, Penrose Quay, Cork City. The founders and clinic directors are Australian physiotherapist, Dirk Harm, and his wife, Tipperary-native, Dearbhla Breen. Relocating from Brisbane, they bring their extensive knowledge and more than 20 years of combined experience in private practice to the people of Cork.
The vision for the clinic is to provide the best in patient care using the most up-to-date knowledge from the physiotherapy profession. The clinic was designed specifically with this in mind resulting in a modern, state-of-art facility which is both comfortable and functional for patients and staff alike.
Chartered Physiotherapist MISCP
Dearbhla is a Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated from UL in 2007 and then went abroad to work in New Zealand and Australia gaining experience in the public hospital system but predominantly working in private practice. She has completed extensive post graduate training including gaining a graduate certificate in orthopaedic manual therapy from Curtin University in Western Australia, dysfunction in the pregnant and post-partum pelvis, two levels of advanced dry needling training, functional sports rehabilitation and she is a Level 2 Pilates instructor. She has worked with numerous athletes and sporting teams, including Irish international basketball teams, athletes and rowers competing at International level, Gaelic football teams, the Blackrock senior hurling team, and is currently the team physiotherapist to the Irish senior Women’s basketball team.
Chartered Physiotherapist MISCP
Dirk graduated from the University of Queensland in 1999 and has gone on to be somewhat of an innovator in the field, co-developing the award winning self-management device, ‘The Bodyspanner’. Through the system, Dirk has consulted with many of Australia’s top professional teams including The Brisbane Lions, The Gold Coast Suns, The Queensland Reds, The West Coast Eagles and The Adelaide Thunderbirds. He’s also consulted with numerous other professional and Olympic athletes and teams across many disciplines including swimming, cycling, triathlon, cricket and athletics. Dirk continues to strive to improve himself through participating in regular post-graduate education courses and seminars.

Our Acute Injury Service is open between 7am and 11pm, 7 days a week, where one of our chartered physiotherapists will be available to advise you on the best course of action for your injury.

Initial Consultation - €70
Assessment and treatment usually take approx. 45 mins.
Subsequent Consultation - €60
Follow-up appointments are scheduled every half hour.
Extended Consultation (hour-long treatment) - €90
Some patients prefer, or need, longer sessions, like those with a complex injury profile, for best management of their condition.
Classes - €15/class, €90/6 week course
Classes are normally run as a course over 6 consecutive weeks. Some classes may be attended on an ad hoc basis once a 6 week course has been completed and subject to availability.
Basic Running Analysis - €70
Basic analysis including general body screen, video running analysis on a treadmill, including of techniques to improve running efficiency and an exercise program to address any deficits found on screening.
Full Running Analysis - €120
In-depth analysis including comprehensive body screen, video analysis of gait on treadmill and outdoors (weather permitting!), prescription of techniques to improve running efficiency and an exercise program to address any deficits found on screening with follow-up video analysis on a treadmill 2-4 weeks later.
On-site Ergonomic Assessment - €150 + VAT

Location – Function Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic is on the first floor of the Penrose Wharf Complex, a few doors down from Educo Gym and directly above Bridgeway. The first floor can be accessed via the central stairs in front of Sultan Restaurant or there is a lift, for those who require it, located at the front left of the building in front of Maher’s Golf Emporium.
Parking – Courtyard parking is available within the Penrose Wharf Complex which is accessed via Alfred St. Enter the car park using the right lane and collect a ticket. Parking is free for the first half hour and then €2/hour, or part thereof, after that. Alternatively, street parking is available around the streets adjoining the complex but we would recommend trying Alfred St first. Discs can be obtained from the Unity House corner store on McCurtain St. The zone, 1003, is a two hour parking zone for a €2 disc.
